In the Days of My Youth eBook Amelia Ann Blanford Edwards
Amelia Edwards fully captures the life of a young man living and studying in Paris just after the fall of Napoleon III. The book is well written, and does not fall into the trap of making its young male characters unrealistically romantic as do many women writers. Edwards' young men have that unconscious selfishness of the very young, before maturing into adulthood. This book is a pleasant read, with none of the stodginess (to modern readers) of much writing from the Victorian era. I would definitely read another of this author's books.I am giving this book four stars instead of five only because there are many digressions, and although well written, they do tend to slow the pace of the story. However, they were not too distracting, and I ended up skimming through most of them anyway.
