From the USA Today bestselling writing team of Sally J. Smith & Jean Steffens comes a hilarious first book in a brand new mystery series that will keep you guessing until the end...
Melanie Hamilton is not your average artist. She brings home the bacon by inking tattoos at New Orleans's Mansion at Mystic Isle, a resort in the middle of the bayou that caters to fans of the peculiar and paranormal, but her true passion comes alive when she volunteers restoring Katrina-ravaged landmarks. Between her day job, her restoration work, and selling her paintings in Jackson Square, Mel's life is more hectic than Bourbon Street on Fat Tuesday. But when a guest of the resort, a millionaire's widow, is poisoned, and Melanie's close friend is arrested for the murder, things go from hectic to downright dangerous.
Mel joins forces with the resort's delish manager, Jack Stockton, to prove her friend's innocence. Soon they find themselves dealing with séances, secret passages, the ghost of the millionaire himself, gators, swamp rats, and a sinister killer who proves that not everything is what it seems in the Louisiana bayou.
Come on along, and get your creep on.

Mystic Mayhem Mystic Isle Mysteries Book 1 edition by Sally J Smith Jean Steffens Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
Mystic Mayhem is an absolutely delightful cozy mystery! I loved the Louisiana flavor, the wonderful main characters and the intelligently plotted story blended with humor, nonsense, danger, and romance. I was also impressed that the main characters figured out who committed murder instead of tripping over the villain as happens in even really good cozy mysteries.Product details

Mystic Mayhem Mystic Isle Mysteries Book 1 edition by Sally J Smith Jean Steffens Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
The only negative I have about this book is that there aren't 5 more in the series to immediately buy and read!!! Love the characters, setting, story line. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I'm hoping since it was written by 2 authors they can hurry with the next one. (Not so subtle hint, in case they read this!)
Mel and Cat, both employed at a different kind of resort, one that features the supernatural, have a great time roaming through the pages of this fine mystery. Along the way they must solve a murder, unmask a ghost, and fall in love. I won’t spoil the story for you, but I will say, “Buy this one, It’s great.”
After you read it take time to write an honest review and to score it. Both mean so much to us authors.
Looking for a fun, whimsical mystery with an offbeat and interesting setting? Then read Mystic Mayhem! In this first book you will encounter gators, swamps, psychics, murder, seances and maybe haunted house! Also thrown in is some romance and tons of upbeat colorful characters. I started this boom and could not put it down. I can't wait to the second book in the series.
An enjoyable light suspense with romantic elements. The book had quirky characters and plenty of New Orleans flavor. But unlike many other stories of this ilk, the heroine and many of those around her were KIND and admirable. So nice not to have to read about bitchy, nasty, mean-spirited secondary characters who are friends, co-workers, family members, or ex boyfriends/girlfriends. I'll read the next one.
This book can be counted on to provide humor and a good mystery. The author managed to develop a story that not only tweaks the curiosity of readers who are intrigued by a "who did it" plot but did this with characters who were humorous, fun, and very accurately southern personalities. The setting of the book in the deep south was the perfect place for a story involving magic, ghosts, and delicious food. If the reader is looking for a book full of intense, twisting details or stimulating sexual scenes, then this book is not for you. However, if you are looking for pure fun entertainment that will leave the reader with a happy feeling of satisfaction, then this is a good reading choice for you.
I had to laugh at one or two of the reviews who complained at the author's overuse of similes ("like a....") Yep, there was an overabundance of similes. Some worked, some were groaners. And if I hadn't enjoyed the author's writing so much they probably would have annoyed me. But, I'd been reading a string of cozy mysteries lately that were incredibly bland, or the attempt at humor was filled with cliches that just served to remind me that the author didn't handle humor well. These authors added some fresh humor in their writing, so I gave them extra credit for that. Writing humor is hard, which is why I love reading Jana DeLeon's work so much. She makes is seamless. These authors don't necessarily make it as seamless (many of the similes seemed forced), but they do a pretty good job of it. I'd say lighten up a bit on the similes, but do continue injecting your original humor into your work. I'll read more from these authors.
This cozy mystery will appeal to readers who want a good-natured courageous heroine. Melanie Hamilton works as a tattoo artist at a New Orleans resort specializing in paranormal and magical events. Readers who like a touch of the supernatural will enjoy the seance and ghosts who make appearances.
When a good friend of Melanie's is arrested for murder, she charges in to find the real killer. Melanie has a delightful sense of humor that keeps the reader smiling. She corrals her friends to search for clues--her developing attraction to the hotel manager, "Cap'n Jack," adds warmth to the pursuit of the killer.
The authors do a marvelous job of depicting New Orleans--just enough dialect to be atmospheric and great descriptions of the scenery and food. Readers will definitely feel like the've taken a fun vacation in New Orleans.
Mystic Mayhem is an absolutely delightful cozy mystery! I loved the Louisiana flavor, the wonderful main characters and the intelligently plotted story blended with humor, nonsense, danger, and romance. I was also impressed that the main characters figured out who committed murder instead of tripping over the villain as happens in even really good cozy mysteries.
